Mind the mind

In a world with increasing, incessant noise; we often forget that we need a bit of quiet.

In childhood, we often got bored; we invented games, or just stared at the clouds, felt the breeze and the sun, and imagined what we would do if we could fly…

Do you remember the last time you were bored? I don’t. I find myself scrolling my phone when I am at the slightest ‘risk’ of being bored- while travelling, while waiting my turn at the VISA line, prior to (and during) boarding an aircraft, and yes, even, while waiting for the bowels to clear.

This constant feeding frenzy takes away from our mind’s ability to think and reflect, and we become super-reactive - everything around us is strong enough to affect us and elicit a reaction from us, and by the end of the day we are a summation of feelings (adverse more than pleasant) generated within us by irrelevant incidents and irrational people.

Let’s take a bit of our attention back from our device and into the first machine we were given to play with: our body. Let’s choose one activity, every day, where for five full minutes we will only watch our body do what it does. Chew food, gulp water, stare into space, or just watch ourselves breathe.

Let’s stay, with ourselves, for five minutes each day.
